Position

The SUPRAS (Services Universitaires Pour la Recherche et les Applications en Supraconductivité) group of University of Liège is a coordinated set of scientists belonging to various laboratories of the Faculty of Sciences and the faculty of Applied Sciences. They share the goal of measuring, studying and understanding the properties of ceramics superconductors. This fundamental research is geared towards potential applications.

The group is quite competitive combining various specialised fields; although the scientists originate from small laboratories .

National and international collaborations are already numerous and fruitful with allied laboratories at ULB, UIA, LUC, VUB, UMH, CRIBC, and with laboratories in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, P.R. China, Estonia, Federal Republic of Germany, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, South Korea, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, Ukraine and USA. This has given rise to joint european projects (BRITE-EURAM with CEA Saclay SRMP and the University of Liverpool Materials Engineering Department), to a SUPRANAT (Belgian) consortium sponsored by the Scientific Policy Program of the Prime Minister Service (SPPS) and a five year long grant of the Ministery of Higher Education and Research. The Belgian part of two COST programs is also coordinated by SUPRAS (R.Cloots). NATO HighTech programs are also acknowledged. A Walloon Region program (DGTRE) is underway. SUPRAS  is node in SCENET, and partner in SUPERMACHINES , a RTN of the European Community.

SUPRAS therefore can be considered a coherent and active unit capable of studying materials problems inherent to the synthesis, characterization, and the production of specific (superconducting ceramics-like) materials.
